This qualitative grounded theory study explores how Indian schools adhere to democratic principles and foster democratic leadership. It examines the role of school leaders, particularly principals, in ensuring that education systems promote democratic values in classrooms and administration. The study investigates four sample schools, including government and private institutions, as well as English and vernacular medium schools, to assess their alignment with democratic setups. Findings aim to benefit preservice and in-service teachers by offering insights into nurturing democratic leadership qualities among students through teaching practices, contributing to a deeper understanding of democratic education.
