  • Abstract

This documentary study analyses the levels of reflection in the reflective journals written by 14 pre-service teachers who had opted for environmental education as an elective upon their experiences at workshop on Environment and Sustainability ‘organised by Somaiya College of education and Trailblazer an Outdoor School. During the journal writing as a part of internal practicum, each pre-service teacher wrote reflective journal based on Gibbs Reflection framework. The foci of journal were on the description, feelings, evaluation analysis, conclusion and action plan related to activities conducted during workshop. Reflections of journal helped to create a picture of workshop experienced by the pre-service teachers. The analysis reveals that the majority of the reflective statements written were in technical level followed by contextual level. In the journals, reflections in action plans, evaluation and conclusion are less as compared to description and feelings levels. Thus the study has recommended organisation of meaningful experiences for engaging pre-service teachers to higher and deeper reflective practices.
